Nihon no Kokoku Bijutsu. [The Art of Japanese Advertising].

These books were published to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the foundation of the Tokyo Art Directors Club. The three volumes respectively deal with the medium of poster advertising, newspapers and magazines, as well as package design. It takes a detailed look at way advertising art has been produced and developed, beginning in the Meiji Era (1868-1912), through the Taisho Era (1912-1926), and the first 30 years of the Showa Era (1926-1956). In the introduction the editors stress the difficulties of compiling such a work, due to the ephemeral and disposable nature of advertising. The resultant work is a milestone, beautifully designed by Hara Hiromu. Rare.
