Yokoo Tadanori Zenshu - Complete Tadanori Yokoo.
Usually a ‘zenshu’ [‘complete works’] is a work that is published at the end of an artist’s career, it is something akin to a catalogue raisonné, a scholarly, somewhat stale summing up of the artist’s life and oeuvre. Nothing could be further from the intention of this publication. The title is used in an ironic way: what Yokoo Tadanori (1936-) really wants to say is that this book is completely by him and completely about him at the age of 35. There are 360 of his works on show (incl. illustrations, magazine covers, and posters) , however, a considerable part is taken up by 230 photographs of himself and his friends, all of them part of the rebellious pop-generation. “The works collected here are all my miscarriages, and the book is no more than a cemetery for them.”
